Name: Baxter

Age: Appears to be 18

Gender: Male

Species: Hollow Cat

• ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ sᴛʀᴇɴɢᴛʜs: Baxter holds a significant amount of Willpower despite his lack of metaphysical Soul. He has an ability to be adaptable and is well-learned enough to handle communicating with others of the upper crust of society. It is readily apparent that he is wise enough to use his resourcefulness where needed, and can be shrewd in the face of those who would falter.

• ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ ᴡᴇᴀᴋɴᴇssᴇs: His apathy can regularly make him an enemy of those who seek to connect with him beyond a superficial, courteous level. He is aloof, reticent, and closed off when it comes to strangers. It is said that his difficulty with connecting with others is due to the fact that he connects with energy far, far better.

• ᴠɪᴄᴇs & ᴀᴅᴅɪᴄᴛɪᴏɴs: An addiction to sweets is quantified as one of his addictions. He is shrewd and manipulative when it is needed, to the point of coming off as callous, or indifferent towards the struggles of those that may seek to rely on him.

● ғᴇᴀʀs & ᴘʜᴏʙɪᴀs: His fears are far from superficial; ideally, Baxter does not fear anything. In reality, he seems to hold an apprehension for two things. Being purified by the Light, or devoured by the Darkness. He is also incredibly averse to the thought of developing another Soul and holds a fear of intimacy, something that causes no small amount of anxiety for him.

● ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ: The Worlds are a curious place. Amongst the sea of them, there are many that are unique or beautiful in their own way. Baxter holds no particular connection to the people but being able to feel the lands or seas or the elements between are, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable things he can ever be on the receiving end of.

● ᴛʜᴇ ᴀғғʟᴜᴇɴᴛ: They should use their affluence to make the lives of others better while ensuring their own quality of living doesn't slip between the cracks. He does not care for them either way, for he has never found himself to be one that groveled simply due to the monetary wealth that others hold.

● ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴏᴏʀ: He grew up poor; it goes without saying that few people have ever wanted a demi-human in their employ for anything other than manual labor. He empathizes with them as much as he can, or, at the very least, has an understanding of what those circumstances can be like.

● ɢᴏᴠᴇʀɴᴍᴇɴᴛ: Complicated because it makes things needlessly complex. His understanding of order is that too much of it is a wrong thing, while chaos, in of itself, sows the seeds for freedom and chaos alike. Sometimes it is a necessary evil, but other times simple folk can do without it.

● ᴛᴇᴄʜɴᴏʟᴏɢʏ: He is not the most familiar with it.

● ʀᴇʟɪɢɪᴏɴ: Something that provides peace yet gives form to wretched sorts of ruin when manipulated for gain. Curious.

● ғʀɪᴇɴᴅsʜɪᴘ: Sometimes bonds can even bring the best out in the worst of people, but they can also push them to commit atrocious things. He is a bit awkward when it comes to the subject matter of friendship.

● ʟᴏᴠᴇ: Unneeded. He doesn't seem to be particularly attached to the idea. Yet at the same time, he is curious about love. Can one love without a soul?

● ᴡᴀʀ: An unflattering, unneeded thing. The terrors of war make for sweeping aside any and all thoughts of peace, and as a child, he was told of the atrocities that war could bring. He considers the worst type of war to be one of ideals.

● ғᴏʀɢɪᴠᴇɴᴇss ᴏʀ ʀᴇᴠᴇɴɢᴇ: "Waste not, one want. The most practical choice is not the easiest." Baxter is more liable to forgive someone for hurting him. He is not liable to forgive someone that puts the lives of others at risk.

● ʟɪғᴇ ᴘʜɪʟᴏsᴏᴘʜʏ: "But a day at a time."

● ᴘʀᴇᴊᴜᴅɪᴄᴇs: To those that hold arrogance as a virtue, those that abandon the ones they care for, and a mild aversion towards many people that use Darkness, despite her alignment falling more between as time goes on.

Noxic "Irritable aberration..." Noxic means a lot to Baxter; he's reliable, trustworthy (albeit, trustworthy in the loosest sense of the word), and can /understand/ Baxter in a way that their wayward human companion cannot. While feelings are generally something that he tries to keep out of the mix, he cannot deny the fact that there is a certain intrigue to the experiment that he can't quite put his finger on. He desires to see him grow beyond the Darkness that has taken root in his Soul, yet also seems impartial towards him at the worst of moments. Their mutual understanding of one another seems to attract Baxter like a moth to a fire, yet their natural dispositions tend to make them flow like oil and water. Noxic seems keen on pushing Baxter's buttons to get him to show some kind of emotion, and Baxter has a habit of averting, sliding away, pushing aside things that he would see as bothersome. It's...complex, but they seem to fit along with one another all the same.

Suihei "Such a vexing child..." The Spiritbearer of their day in age. Suihei is an anomaly, one that has come into her power without foreknowledge. She is a peculiar thing, bright and energetic in a way that frustrates Baxter almost as much as he finds it endearing. While she may be far too emotive for her own good, she can, at times, act as a bit of a moral compass for Baxter. While he doesn't rely on her as much as she relies on him, they even one another out by him grounding her in reality, and her pushing him to think with something beyond critical knowledge.

Norwin "You are a walking mass of contradictions." Blunt, at least. Norwin is a young woman that Baxter has a few conflicting thoughts on. Her determination, born through either entitlement or pride, can be a dangerous thing, given the lack of temperance. Yet she is also one of the few people that appear to appreciate the finer intricacies of sorcery. While she can be irritable, or condescending, she appears to have a similar sense of cynicism that Baxter holds, allowing them to talk, well, in a manner that some of their more lighthearted party-members would be able to handle. While he can be indifferent towards many, Norwin is someone that Baxter appears to enjoy needling. Testing her thoughts, her beliefs, anything and everything that will lead to her striking back with verbal barbs. All the same, he readily would admit that she is an ally - if not for her justified nature, then because her heart remains in the right place.

Enlil "You are quite the overbearing presence." Bright, optimistic, bright to the point where it can prove a slight bit annoying. Not someone that Baxter finds to be irritable to the point of despising, Enlil seems to be a kind spirit that the feline has taken a shining to in his own distant sort of way. While the boy is kind, compassionate, even, his lack of street smarts seems to garner some form of snark from the feline's lips. All the same, Enlil seems to be a wellspring of book knowledge, which provides more than a fair bit of intelligent conversation, if Baxter so desires.

Seria: " Scoundrel." Baxter has nothing else to say about her. Her cold, clinical reach into the depths of Darkness may have had pitiable motivations, but he has never quite forgiven her for spurning Noxic and treating his friend like nothing less than trash. If anything, he despises her with whatever soul he may have, a feeling that he welcomes, yet rejects in equal measure.

The Holy Order: "Blinded by your perceived glory." He has never had the assumption that anything that focuses on Light too much is pure and Just. He does not like them. He does not trust them. As a creature that walks the line of existence and nonexistent, the members of this Order despise his very existence.

Ailments: Baxter state of being can be considered an ailment in of itself. Rejected by each Realm, he is a state of quasi-existence that has left his body and soul tethered based entirely on his will. Taking into consideration that he is a Hollow, it can be postulated that because he cannot handle excessive qualities of Light or Darkness without excessive protection. However, this does not make him frail, as taking into account his relatively active lifestyle, his mind and body remain at peak without the soul there to limit it. To Baxter, his slowly regrowing soul is like an illness to him, as he has grown so accustomed to being without that it is almost painful to slowly lose his connection to the space between Worlds. Emotions slowly rearing their head makes for an at times disgruntled feline.

Past Wounds: Despite being an adventurer of sorts, Baxter is not reckless enough to allow himself to be harmed too often. This does not mean that he has never been wounded, as his current state of being dictates that he must have lost his soul to something in order to retain it with no emotions. When considering such a fact, one can theorize that he may have been emotionally wounded to the point of becoming despondent in the past, though he remains tight-lipped about it for the most part. Scrapes and wounds can easily be patched over with curative magic, but the ache of memories just out of grasp prove tantalizing as they are repulsive.

Attributes: Baxter certainly is a particularly strange creature for a Hollow - neither of the higher caste of retaining his true form nor the lower caste of a Dusk. While this may prove confusing for many, it is important to recall that the jacket that he seems so fond of wearing is actually the discarded flesh of his Dusk body, leading to- well, a rather morbid train of thoughts. Due to his years of traversing prior to becoming companions with a young woman and a lagomorph, he proves incredibly wise. It proves to be the most valuable weapon in his arsenal, as unlike his party members who can easily be swayed by emotion, Baxter can remain detached, if not cool and collected in a situation that demands it of him. Critical thinking seems to be his favored approach to things. He is also excessively durable and flexible, capable of twisting, contorting, and moving his body with an ethereal grace that allows him to nearly dodge or phase through most blows that fly his way. As his magical arsenal is unfathomable to many, Baxter seems to hold the rather notable prestige of mastering many, many magical spells and placing them under his belt.

Limitations: All the same, despite his abilities at magic and moving, as well as his unique twist on durability, he is quite frail to physical blows without adequate protection. Physically, he relies on his magic and speed in order to prevent himself from being struck out. He often has the bad habit of remaining too detached from things- whether from fear or from otherwise being entirely up in the air. As Suihei often says, he has the emotional depths of a shallow pond at times, lending itself to an almost clinical methodology when it comes to dealing with hard decisions. While his time spent alone has allowed him to foster many abilities, it has also stripped him of empathizing with others.

Style; Combat

Endurance » 40/100 "I shall exercise caution."

As previously mentioned, Baxter's durability primarily shows in the form of his ability to twist, contort, and bend out of the way of attacks. While he has no particular means of growing exhausted, he can strain his being by focusing too much on his innate ability with Nothingness, drawing him closer and closer to oblivion with every use. This is why he is more liable to use general magic, at least until he masters his personal element to the best he can. Aside from this, he can continue fighting alongside his allies for extended periods of time, but will often be the first one knocked out if struck by a particularly strong blow.  He typically attempts to get around this with his agile nature.

Strength » 50/100 "I am not the most proficient."

Physically, Baxter leaves much to be desired. When he can have the Elements dance to his whim, why is there a need to hold physical strength? While he is not strong enough to tear through Heartless with impunity like his party members, he can still fend for himself and has the average amount of strength for someone that regularly maintains physical exercise. Since he specializes in magical and long-range combat, however, it is not something that many people have seen him do. He is fast enough and knowledgeable enough to lock someone's body up with a few critical blows to perceived weak areas, though.

Speed / Reflexes »  90/100  "You are woefully inadequate."

Baxter's reflexes are easy of the best in his party. His speed is phenomenal, and few, if any have ever managed to catch the drop on him due to his perception. His casting speed is more than impressive, as it is primarily done through channeling the energy from the World through his body and allowing it to take shape. While this normally would require stationary action, Baxter is quick enough to snap off several spells in the span of seconds, then keep pace with whatever creature may attempt to get the drop on him. Even to those with sharp eyes, he appears to leave afterimages, and his peculiar state of being permits him to simply phase through many things, and teleport if it is well and truly needed.

He seems to be remarkably proficient at detecting attacks and reacting in split seconds. His ability to detect, think, and react border the preternatural, with many of his movements appearing almost lazy, or languid with how he may carry himself. It could be considered phenomenal in its own right, because Baxter has well and truly never felt the need to move as fast as he possibly can, lending some credibility to the fact that he simply makes a hobby of toying with people like, well, a cat would their prey.

Agility » 90/100 "How dull of you."

Extremely agile, Baxter holds an ability that few can boast. He displays excellent coordination, precise muscular control, and above optimal balance on even the most precarious of items. Keeping himself balanced proves relative child's play, a few laws of nature, seem to apply to him if he so wishes them to be voided. Capable of recovering on air and even gliding through it like water, even uprooting Nyx fails to do much. He is capable of keeping his balance on unstable surfaces with little in the way of recovery time, traversing even falling debris with precise leaps, quick pivots, and hops that near always land without a hint of hesitation.

Magic » EX "You are outmatched."

Baxter is extremely fine-tuned to the art of magic. By funneling the energy of the World through his body, he is capable of performing a variety of elemental effects by harnessing latent, potential energy that every planet has. Considered archaic by many people, it is still, nevertheless tied to several fundamental forces of the universe and allows Baxter to perform a variety of feats that include buffing, debuffing, warping space, gravity and the earth beneath their feet. While he cannot do something as phenomenal as craft barriers, the fact that he is one of the few people in the known worlds capable of utilizing the mysterious spells known as 'Elements' does give him an edge above most, if not all adversaries.

Personality: Cool and collected, his aloof demeanor veils a curiosity that swims like the tides. There are those that live beneath the presumption that Hollows are detached and unfeeling. Looking at Baxter, one would be inclined to believe that this is a simple fact. A creature without a Heart cannot feel. They can only think. People are far from willing to accept anything but this as the gospel truth, and Baxter, in his years of non-existence, has never dared question it.

He appears to have a personality befitting of a Hollow, to the point where many believe that he does not have memories of his first life to draw from. An assumption that would be proven as fact. Instead, his personality seems to come from his appearance alone - he takes things at a pace that could be seen as languid, at his own rate, with little in the way of rushing or hesitant. He's the sort of person that you would find curled up with a book more often than you would see him actively participating in a conversation, a person that, despite being surrounded by proactive people - remains reactive. He has never frequented the thought of placing value into interpersonal relationships, and due to that, he can come off as flippant, or cold.

Conversations with him are strange things. He has been noted to absorb words in full - in complete silence, before responding in turn. Far from one that would ever give someone the brunt of his unfiltered opinion, Baxter seems to be a product of someone that has simply spent a lot of time thinking, and doing nothing but. While this may appear to simply be a facade, he does hold a genuine disdain of a lack of manners, which lends itself to his loquacious manner of speaking. Getting close to him is an effort that few are capable of, but those that do are frequently surprised by what is revealed of his nature.

To Baxter, everything is connected. He perceives the Worlds beneath a unified view, in part due to the nature of Nothingness in-full. Of his party, he frequently displays the most maturity on a superficial level. Politeness and apparent apathy interweave to such a fine point that it seems lock and key. While he does appreciate the individuality that every being holds, he is reluctant to share his own thoughts without good reason.

Comprehending that there is a time for everything, Baxter holds a habit of simply withholding information that he does not find worth sharing at the time. Despite his lack of emotions, he displays an excellent degree of analyzing others. Insightful would be the term if he were capable of empathy, but it is not putting himself into other shoes so much as it is his ability to observe others. Time has not been entirely kind to him, and while he may not be cynical to the point of distrusting every face he comes across, he does not give his trust freely.

While bonds are transient, fleeting things to him, Baxter's perceptive nature tends to draw him towards being a logically sound creature. He does not believe in the superficial friendships that many people hold, for, as previously stated, his trust is hard to come by. Looking deeper into it, one may come to the startling conclusion that Baxter simply does not enjoy the thoughts of friendship, instead of finding gratification in the answers that books provide, or by satisfying his own curiosity through observing. This does not mean that he is incapable of forging bonds. Though time has not been entirely kind, it has not been cruel without reason. To those who manage to gain the trust within his mind, he proves fiercely devoted, almost doting, in a way, albeit in a manner that comes off as backhanded.

In his time spent searching for his past, he has changed - even if he dislikes it, he is aware that change is the natural course that things take. Whereas as a living person he may have been incredibly selfish to the point of disregarding the emotions of others, as a Hollow, he proves remarkably aware of them. He thinks nothing of sharing his thoughts when he does deign it appropriate, long-since tiring of the cowardice that led to his current state.

Since he has become a Hollow, he has simply had to acknowledge the faults that he had in life. Certainly, this did not lead to a revelation, but it has led to few regrets on the way that he disregarded his own path. While the heart may have left the body, there remain shades of the person that he used to be, locked away within him. When it is pushed to the forefront, he displays consideration, thoughtfulness. But he also displays a harsh sort of shrewdness that extends to everyone else he does not consider close to him. His studies are readily apparent as something that he has simply always cared for, and while blind courage may not have been something for him, wise battles were. As he traverses the Worlds, he exercises this mindset and finds it tempered. He does not crumble beneath threats. He does not flee from them. In the face of dire straits, he expresses an obscene amount of sarcasm.

While just beginning to learn of the person that he may have been, Baxter endeavors to keep his eyes on the future instead of focusing on the past. Though he may not display it, and though he may abhor the thought of a Soul taking root within him, he has found a peace that he would not have thought possible as a living person. You could say that he is running from his problems, even still - or perhaps, he is simply bitter about an ancient Organization being built on lies and simply finds purpose in a state of nonexistence. Despite this, the understanding that his comrades display towards him has made lost thoughts of regaining a Heart all the more prominent.

Perhaps in the future, it would not be bad. But for now? He finds contentment with them wearing their hearts for him.
