Playful Dreams

on Fri Oct 19, 2018 12:12 pm
The little Cuphead that had shown up was still mostly keeping to himself. He was still so scared to do anything. He felt like just breathing was going to get him into trouble. He didn't do anything unless he was told or given permission. He still hadn't said a word to anyone. The only thing they got were nods or shakes in reply to them asking him anything. But then another Cuphead had appeared out of nowhere. It had spooked the little boy. He wasn't used to such things happening and made him even more frightened, despite the fact that everyone in the house had been nothing but nice to him. His parents had messed him up real bad. It was going to take a long time for him to heal and turn into the Cuphead that everyone knew today.

But that was okay. Everyone was patient. No one was going to force the kid. Cuphead knew out of everyone there what it was going to take to get the little him to be more like him. He wasn't going to rush it. He was going to let the small him go about things at his own speed. It would do him good.

Mini-Cuphead peaked out from the bedroom he shared with his older self and his boyfriends. He saw the newest member to the house sitting on the couch. Rasui wasn't that his nickname? He couldn't remember. There were a lot of things he had to keep track of and he forgot a lot of it. But he tried his best. He had to. He didn't want to get punished for it. Even if he knew he wouldn't, his mind told him otherwise.

The child watched the former dream Cuphead silently, too scared to approach him.

Of course he knew the kid was there. He wasn't really real, allowing him to sense certain things. And a little four year old, that admittedly wasn't great at hiding, was fairly easy to spot. But he also knew doing anything would luckily scare the smaller child away, so he sat there, watching TV. Then he got a great idea, smirking to himself a little.

The Cuphead this child was based on loved Super Smash Brothers. So obviously, the next logical step was to play Smash, and get this small child to play with him in the process. Genius. He begin setting it up, and purposefully set out a second controller, in case someone else wanted to play with him. He could never imagine who of course.

The small child watched as Rasui continued to watch TV. He had no idea what he was watching, but that didn't matter for very long. The four-year-old tilted his head to one side curiously as he watched the older cup set up the game. The tiny Cup had never seen a game before in his life. He never played one before neither. So to see Super Smash Brothers on screen was an alien thing to the boy.

After a few moments of standing there watching, thinking the other male still had no idea he was there, the little kid slowly began to approach him. He was still highly nervous and ready to bolt at a moment's notice, but he'd at least try to give Rasui a chance. He had with everyone else in the house. Plus, maybe he could learn about what the former dream Cuphead was doing too.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that the child was finally creeping closer. He pretended not to see it however, knowing if he made any move that he knew, that child would bolt in seconds. So, he focused on his game, beating up bad guys and unlocking new people to play as in the process. The second controller was still beside him on the couch, a space left for someone to sit down there. He truly didn't know if Cay would take it or not. Guess he'd just take the chance and hope.

This kid clearly needed a friend. He only really interacted with Reed, and the older version of himself. He was hoping, since he was a dream form of Reed, the kid would trust him more. It seems that was not the case however.

The child continued to slowly make his way over. He eyed the TV for a few moments, watching as Rasui fought against the CPUs and unlocked more characters to pick from in the process. He timidly went to the edge of the couch. He placed his hands on the couch and attempted to pull himself up. He struggled a lot but he managed to get himself up there in the end. He sat on the far end, keeping away from the other cup as best he could. He didn't reach for the controller right away, unsure if he was able to or not. And he was too scared to, not wanting to risk getting into trouble. So he sat there and watched the other play the game curiously.

He peered over curiously, smiling a little as he finally got to the couch. He kept playing for a while, pretending not to notice they were there. After about two more fights, he yawned, setting his controller down, leaning back, just happening to look over at him. "Oh, hey kiddo. Didn't see you there. Wanna play with me? I understand if you don't want to." He smiled reassuringly. "If you prefer, you can just keep watching."

The child jumped, slightly startled by the sudden attention on him. The little cup flinched back a bit, looking up at him fearfully. This might have been a dream version of Reed, but Rasui was still new to him. He didn't have that same level of trust with him like he did with his older self or their non-dream counterpart. Even Mugman and Azure were getting trusted more than they had before. It was mostly due to the fact that the mug that feared loud noises had allowed him to join in a game of pretend once, and even picked him up and allowed him to ride on his shoulders to be their little brother in their game of pretend with castles and dragons, and all that. And even though the mug had tripped and the two fell, they both laughed, even if the tiny cup had done so silently, and enjoyed themselves. That, and given the fact that Azure had given him Boo, his first ever non-scary looking toy and one of his best friends, that helped him grant trust in them both.

He blinked curiously up at him, head tilted to one side in confusion. Play? What was that? That was what Rasui was doing sure, but... How did one play a game? He never had games before he came here. He never played one before. He had no idea how to play this game. ...Maybe he could learn by watching the older cup. He wasn't about to speak and ask him. He still hadn't spoken a word to anyone in the house, aside from the cats, and Boo, but Cuphead didn't need words to understand his little self. Since they were the same person, the bigger cup normally knew what his little self wanted, which made things easy for the two of them. The same could probably be said for Reed too since he was also a Cuphead. Maybe Rasui and Ward too. As for everyone else? They seemed to be getting along okay enough. The four-year-old would speak once he was ready and knew he was completely safe.

It wasn't that he didn't trust the people in the house. He did, just... After years of being forced to be silent and getting into trouble for even making a peep, talking without permission scared him. He was still terribly frightened that somehow his parents would hear him and suddenly show up to hurt him more, even with him being well protected. That fear was what kept him from speaking, and when he did speak, it was always so quiet and the second he heard footsteps, he'd go silent once more. At least he was making progress. It was slow, but it was happening.
