Dawn of the Zombies

on Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:47 pm
Life in Moonlit Springs seemed to be going alright for the small town and everyone that lived there. But that wasn't going to last at all. Rua Bandini's mundane life is put to a sudden end when the zombie apocalypse hits Moonlit Springs. Now, Rua and her friends are forced to fight for survival in a world devoid of hope. Will they be able to do that? Or will they lose all hope and fall to the zombies that are taking over the world?

Re: Dawn of the Zombies

The dark purple cat awoke in her bed like normal. She gave a small groan as she turned over to see what time it was. Her clock by her bed told her it was a little past one in the afternoon. Well, she was getting better at not sleeping the whole day away like she used to when she first got back to Moonlight Springs. Regardless, she figured she might as well get up now that she was awake.

The teenager climbed out of bed and got dressed before she headed out of her bedroom. She said hello to her mom and dad, before she head off into town to figure out what she could do until her friends got finished with their jobs for the day or whatever else they were currently doing at the moment.

What surprised the young feline was that the whole town was dead silent. There was no one out walking about. It was like the world had completely stopped all together and she was the only one there. It was a little unnerving to say the least. Still, Rua pushed the thought out of her mind and continued her trek through the quiet streets. Someone had to be around, right? She had just seen her parents! Were was everyone else?

It was a little unsetting to be the only one out and about. Not even Sienna was around like the bear normally was. Even when it was cold outside, the older black bear was always outside. What had changed? What was going on? Nothing was making sense to the cat right now. Even less since than since she first got back home after having to leave because of her 'problem'. And that had been one fucked up time!

Shaking her head to clear the dark thoughts that wanted to overwhelm her, Rua pressed on. She was determined to find someone around. The first stop she came across was the store the two bird twins worked at. Were they here? She hoped so. Maybe they would know what was going on and where everyone in town had disappeared to. She pushed the door opened and stepping inside, dark blood red eyes scanning around for the older male and female.

"Jules? Parker? You guys here?"

Rua frowned when she got no answer from the swallows. That only further worried her. Where were the two of them? Did they have today off? It was possible. Maybe she should go and check on Mae or Domino. Maybe even Gen or Cinder. Possible Rowan too... She just wanted to know one of her friends were okay in this silence engulfed world.

The sixteen-year-old waited for a few minutes longer to see if they would reply to her question, before she'd head off to find her other friends. And hopefully the two swallows as well if they really weren't here at the store. A pang of fear was slowly beginning to raise in her gut the longer she went without a reply from the two birds. What if something happened to them like the rest of the town? Something had to of happened, but what?

Before she could call out to her friends again, the doors burst open behind her. The short dark purple feline spun around, dark blood red eyes widening a bit in surprise. Standing before her, was a taller cheetah, female as well. She was taller than the younger one. Her orange-and-white fur was stained with blood and she was dressed in the normal cop-themed outfit.

"Zina? What are you doing here?"

The older she-cat rushed over and grabbed the younger one by the arm, beginning to pull her away to the police car as quickly as she could. She didn’t even answer any of the younger female's questions. Screams sounded from behind them and Rua turned her head around to see what was going on. She soon wished she hadn't.

There was a woman in the streets, having tripped and fell onto the ground. What looked like a gross rotting body quickly sprang onto the woman. She screamed in a mix of fear and pure agony as the beast bit down onto her neck, ripping off flesh upon doing so. Blood flew out the wound, getting all over the creature. But that didn't stop it. It just went to eating away on its newest catch.

As soon as she recovered from the bone-chilling horror that took place just outside the car, Holly sped off, heading back home. The younger of the two was still in shock over what had just happened. Her mind felt stunned and her whole body was felt numb. What in the hell just happened? There was no what that was real, right? This had to bee some sort of fucked up dream she was having! People were everywhere now, running for their lives, trying to fend off the zombie-like creatures that had shown up while she was in the store, or creatures themselves. Gunshots rang out against the quiet little town. Some where coming from where she lived and a spike of fear ran through the young cat. Her parents....

She didn’t need to be told that they were killing people. She could feel the bodies being crushed under the tires. She winced at the thought, looking forward towards the road. In the middle of it was a man, stopped dead in his tracks. He was glancing at something to the left before he bolted from whatever he was looking at.

But that hardly was any concern to her at the moment. What was, was the large trunk that was barreling towards them at breakneck speeds. She didn’t even have time to warn the police officer before the impact came. It sent her flying into the other side of the car, smack into the door. The car flipped onto its side not long after, before it landed on its back.

Rua hit her head on the ceiling of the now crushed cruiser with a lot of force. Before she knew it, her vision had faded to black.

Rowan sat by the window staring out at the empty town, a look of worry and fear clear on his face an expression that was unnatural for a character like himself. Things were different today though, and he felt different alongside it; up until now he had not a care in the world, and only wanted to raise a bit of hell with a few buddies of his but their usual activities were on hold and it seemed things were going to stay like that.

His thoughts drifted to the short time he spent outside, Moonlight Springs was empty around that time like how it is now but he didn't think much of it. It might have been better if he had, for he had no preparation for what came next. The fox could only shudder at the thought of those crazed hungry eyes, and the sickly pale hue that animal had when he charged at Rowan; it was frightening, so much so that he was afraid to leave his house.

There was no telling if that diseased creature was out there, waiting for his prey or if more had appeared over the next hour but on top of his concern for his own safety, he wondered about his friends. If they were okay if they had run into what he had, or if they had already fallen victim to them.

With an unsteady sigh, he moved to the door and stopped with his hand on the knob, attempting to build up his courage so he could find anyone that might be okay and have some knowledge of what was going on. He gulped anxiously and pushed the door open, greeted with the deserted streets once more; there was no sign of what had attempted to attack him so he cautiously began to take a few steps forward.

Slowly but surely, the young teen awoke again. Her head hurt like a bitch and she felt a sharp pain in her arm from where she hit the other side of the car when it crashed. Her eyes felt heavy like they wanted to slip shut again and dark edges formed across her vision. But she did her best to fight the darkness that wanted to crept up on her. Sluggishly, she reached for the door and pushed it open as best she could. She stumbled out into the open, one paw placed on her head. She had on hell of a headache. Glancing down she could see her reddish-orange sweater and dark purple shorts had dark red stains on them. Was that blood?

"...Zina...?" she asked weakly, looking around for the older cat. All around her she could hear screams of panic and fear. Gunshots firing everywhere in town. All around her people were rushing to escape the horrid creatures, not even bothering to help those around them. It was survival of the strongest.

Rua moaned in pain as she limped forward. Pain shot up her leg and she hissed in agony. No one was going to stop to help her. They only cared about themselves in this chaos. The dark-furred feline pressed up, wishing she had her bat on her for protection. Of one of the few times she left home without it. What a mistake that was.

The teenager fought though the pain as she continued on. She dodged and ducked through the crowd of people to the best of her ability. She had to get home and make sure her family were okay. She had to find her friends.

I hope they're okay...

In the distance screams rang out, making his ears twitch with curiosity as the hellish noises reached them. There was that feeling of terror once again in the pit of his stomach, the intensity of it growing stronger and stronger as he continued to make his way in that direction; it seemed to continue growing as the screaming became louder and louder, he was used to noise but this was deafening.

Finally, he had reached the source of it all and he couldn't exactly comprehend it. Everyone in town had finally surfaced, but they were all running and some were trying to defend themselves using whatever they could get their hands on. Rowan stood frozen in place watching as more of those insane creatures hunted down the ones who didn't appear to be infected, and gnawed and ripped into their flesh.

The scene made him want to throw up, and he was grateful that he hadn't eaten anything for he might have done just that. Carefully he began to try and make his way through the carnage, trying to avoid being trampled or eaten alive.

Bodies lined the streets. The stomach-turning smell of blood and death hit Rua's nose like a wave. The nightmarish creatures were wandering around the small town, eating and tearing into those unlucky enough to fall victim to them.

The feline's eyes rested upon an old rusted pipe. She bent down, gritting her teeth in pain as she gripped it with her paw. It might not have been her bat, but it would have to do until she returned home. At least she had some form of weapon for little protection.

One of the flesh-eaters lunged for her, seeing the injured cat like an easy target. Out of pure instinct alone, Rua swung the rusty pipe at the decaying monster as hard as she could. It staggered back from the force, giving the cat a chance to attack again. She kept hitting the creature until it fell. Blood had splashed upon her, but she didn't seem to care. She only stopped once the zombie didn't move anymore.

The dark colored she-cat was panting heavily as she stumbled back from the zombie. She killed it. She actually killed it. She couldn't stand around and dwell on it forever. Staying still meant death. She left the fallen beast behind her, her blood colored eyes looking around for anyone she might know.

She spotted a familiar fox making his way through the crowd, a look of sheer terror on his face. Hope welled up inside her as she limped as fast as she could towards the vulpine.

It wasn't long before Rowan had spotted Rua, she was heading right for him and like many of the savage creatures she was covered in someone else's blood. He wasn't too sure if his friend had become one of them, and it would be risky to see if she hadn't or had but he didn't have much choice. Everyone didn't stop to look around, to gather their wits and look for someone they could trust in this situation, despite it being better in groups, so he wasn't sure if there was anyone else around here that he might know.

Ducking and weaving through the crowd he finally met up with her, she didn't attack and he was relieved to find that she hadn't been infected.

"I'm glad you made it out alive," he said to her, trying to keep his voice audible yet low at the same time so he wouldn't draw attention to himself. Not wanting to stand around and chat, which would really be risking it, he turned around and started to weave his way through the crowd once more but back in the direction he came from; Rowan looked over his shoulder to make sure that his friend was following and didn't just stand there waiting to be consumed.

A breath of relief escaped the young feline as Rowan and her met half-way. She was relieved to see that he wasn't injured nor been infected by the zombies. People were still running, fleeing from the beasts. The gunshots were starting to slowly starting to fade. A small jolt of fear shot through her at that. But at the moment, she could care less. She and the fox needed to get someplace safe.

"Barely," Rua commented, her tone thick with pain, but she swallowed it back down. "I'm glad you're okay too, though. We should probably getting out of here."

The vulpine was always beginning to head away from the crowd, ducking and weaving through them. She followed after him, keeping her weapon tight in her paws. She was ready to beat anyone who dared get near her and her friend. She held her injured arm close to her stomach as she limped after the male fox.

"Have you seen anyone else?" she dared to ask. She feared what the answer might be, and she knew that now might not have been the best time nor place to ask such a question, but she knew it was going to eat away at her until she got an answer. "Are the others okay?"

He couldn't help but respond with a heavy sigh, the fox so desperately wanted to tell her what she wanted to hear but it just wasn't the truth. He hadn't seen anyone else, he didn't even know what was going on until this very moment. He knew just about as much as she did, and that was nearly next to nothing and wouldn't help them much in trying to find out which of their friends were even still alive.

"I don't know...I haven't seen anyone else, just you but wherever they are I'm pretty sure they're doing alright for themselves," he attempted to put a positive spin on the end of that, it didn't exactly seem to sound quite right; Rowan had never been very optimistic and with something like this optimism was hard to come by or even force out.

"Have you been hurt?"

Re: Dawn of the Zombies

Rua felt her ears lower at the news. She knew that it was unlikely that he had seen anyone else just like she had. She had only came across Zina and who knew what happened to her. Guilt washed over her as she didn't even bother to check on the cheetah to see if she was still in the car, alive or dead. But now it was too late. She had left the officer to die. She was no better than the people around them not caring about anyone but themselves.

She couldn't let it consume her, however. She had to find her remaining friends and parents. She hoped that Zina, if she was still alive, would forgive her. The feline gave a nod at the fox's words. Their friends were fine. They could handle themselves for a little while. They could hold out until the duo found them. She hoped.

"I was with Zina in her cop car. She came and grabbed me when I went to see Jules and Parker. We got into an accident with a truck came and smacked into us. I hit my head pretty hard and my arm and leg hurts, but aside from that, I'm fine."

It was a small lie. She was fine. The only part that wasn't was her head still pounding like crazy from where she hit it on the roof of Zina's car. There was a bit of blood from the impact, but it wasn't too bad. It could have been much worse. Her arm hurt like hell, however. She could move it only slightly. She had to rely on her other arm to fight off any zombies or people that wanted to cause them harm. Her leg burned as she put purser on it. She grit her teeth whenever she walked on it. She wasn't about to look weak in front of her friend or the people around her.

Showing weakness meant death. And she wasn't about to die today. Nor was she going to let Rowan or any of her other friends die like she had Zina. She made that a promise to herself. And she was going to keep it too.

"What about you? Are you okay?"

He looked over at her in question, she didn't look like she was too okay but he didn't want to seem like he was worrying too much. If anything she would just tell him things were alright again, and he really didn't feel like bantering about her health at this moment in time.

"Just a little shocked about everything happening, but I haven't been injured if that's what you're concerned about."

As they continued walking, the fox looked around occasionally checking to see if the houses in the neighborhood had any of their curtains withdrawn so he could check for any signs of life. It didn't seem like a single soul was willing to come out or was still alive, every house appeared as if it were dark and empty. Rowan found himself doubting his own words of optimism, and he no longer hoped to find only his friends but anyone at this point.

Rua gave a nod. She was glad to know that her friend was okay and wasn't injured at all. He was lucky that he hadn't been hurt. To that the she-cat was thankful for. Now they only needed to focus on finding their friends and family and making sure they were okay. That was easier said than done, but the dark purple feline was sure that they would be able to do it. If lucky decided it wanted to stay on their side.

"That's good you're okay at least. One less worry... It's crazy that this is going on. It's like something out of a horror movie or game!"

He nodded at her statement, though he found it rather childish. There wasn't exactly a good argument against what the feline had said, everything about this was so surreal that it was hard to fathom.

"Yeah, only if we die we're not coming back."

"Yeah, that's the down side to it..." she agreed quietly. One person she knew had already died today. There was no telling who else they knew was already dead or who wasn't. They wouldn't know until they found them. Hopefully that would be soon. "Where are we going anyway?"

"How the hell should I know, I'm just trying to find someone else who's alive. Why are you lookin' to go on a date?" Rowan answered, he didn't mean to be short with her but he figured that she would at least be looking around like he was.

"You should probably be searching too, no matter who it is at least they'll be alive and it's better to stick together."

Rua rolled her eyes at the fox's remark. He didn't need to be so cross with her, but she understood that things were going to hell right now and they needed to find whoever they could.

"I know that, but we also can't just be wandering around like chickens with their heads cut off. We need a plan or we're sitting ducks."

"Well then what do you suggest? Hold up in an abandoned house with boarded-up doors and windows, just like in the movies? In case you haven't noticed that doesn't work out too well. If we keep moving, chances are we'll find someone and have a less chance of dying. We find someone else we set up some sort of game plan because right now two of us ain't gonna cut it."
